Planting Guide
Follow these best practices to ensure your companion tree thrives.
1. Choose the Right Tree
Always select native species that are adapted to your local climate and soil. They require less water and maintenance. Consult your local nursery for advice.
2. Select the Spot
Ensure the location has enough sunlight and space for the tree to grow to its full size. Avoid planting too close to buildings or power lines.
3. Digging the Pit
Dig a pit that is twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root ball. This encourages roots to spread horizontally.
4. Planting
Gently remove the sapling from its bag/pot without damaging the roots. Place it in the center of the pit. Fill with soil and press down gently to remove air pockets.
5. Watering & Care
Water immediately after planting. Water regularly for the first few months until the roots are established. Mulch around the base to retain moisture.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Planting too deep (suffocates roots).
- Over-watering or under-watering.
- Planting invasive species.
- Forgetting to remove the plastic bag from the root ball.
